Tue, 21 March 2006 Tom and Jeremy went to SXSW this past week, slept (somtimes) in a little hotel room (Jeremy on the floor, Tom's a dick), ate (sometimes) at restaurants every day, and saw many, many bands (many of whom were technically within walking distance of each other), and because of the weather spent just over ten hours in the car driving home. No, don't feel sorry for us, because it was truly a privelege, right down to sharing dinner at a thai restaraunt with Student Film while they were in town (even though the restaraunt ripped Jeremy off for extra tea), because we saw in 4 days what can take months to see in terms of live music quantity, and can sometimes require multiple trips out of town in terms of live music quality. In short, we're exhausted, but satisfied, and while happy, we've decided to take a break from podcasting this week. We'd hate to leave you with nothing, though, we who have had so much recently, so we decided to put together a little sampler of bands that we saw at SXSW, not at all meaning to be sadistic, in order that you might hear what we did and you didn't. This little sample is by no means representitive of the crazy fucking massive amount of live music that was available in Austin this last week. We were obliged to chose what we wanted to see by what we could get into based on capcity, location, time constraints; SXSW is truly a sight to behold.Jeremy saw about ten times as many bands as Tom, and this is because he is of greater stamina. Here are a mere fraction of the ones he saw, including Belle and Sebastian, Blackalicious, Frog Eyes, Spoon, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Devotchka, Wolfmother, Phosphorescent, The New Pornographers, and Mogwai. Tom saw fewer bands, but swears he had as good a time as anyone, and probably slept more. Tom saw excellent performances from Parts and Labor, Lance Hahn of J Church, Billy Bragg, Shellshag, Lifetime, and a couple of others. Check back again next Monday for Episode 16, which I am certain will be a kick ass preview of upcoming albums and shows, as usual. Comments[3] |
Mon, 13 March 2006 Episode 15 is the episode of supreme importance. Don't miss
it. Don't be left out in the cold, dummy. Listen. What have we got, you ask? Well, we've got a few new releases, including songs from Cordero, Haram, The Grey, and NOFX. And then a huge-normous show update full of... shows. Imagine that. We've got Dropsonic, The Nein, The Owls, Jai Alai Savant, Magnolia Electric Co., Zombi, Blowfly, The Old Haunts, Clair De Lune, and Damien Jurado. Happy SXSW. Comments[0] |
Tue, 7 March 2006 Holy crap, is this one long mutha! Don't think we're going to be doing this ever again. Too much work! Screw two-hour episodes. It's going to be less-than-an-hour from here on out, with exceptions of course. We've got more new releases than you can shake an ugly stick at. Stuff from Baron Zen, Centro-Matic, The Czars, Devics, Dogme 95, Figurines, Half-Handed Cloud, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, The Inklings, The Lawrence Arms, Mogwai, Mudhoney, Neko Case, The Ocean, Paul Flaherty & Chris Corsano, Pink Mountaintops, The Rogers Sisters, Some By Sea, and Stereolab Then, as always, we give you an extensive live music preview, with tracks from The Heavenly States, The Eagles of Death Metal, Brief Candles, Thunderbirds are Now!, Band of Horses, Russian Circles, and Mazarin. And we have a request! A fan came by Guestroom and requested a song from the new Robert Pollard album, to share it's greatness with all of our listners. Kudos to him! Comments[0] |
Mon, 27 February 2006 The shortest month is drawing to a close here, and we at Festival City Radio are pleased to present Episode 13. This episode features tracks from the upcoming Cat Power and The Elected albums. (3:15) After that, Tom serves a heaping helping of some of his favorite tunes, all from bands that start with "J", for some reason. Tracks included from Joan of Arc, The Jesus Lizard, J Church, and Jawbreaker. (11:10) Following that Jeremy treats us to tracks from Centro-Matic and The Hold Steady. (27:25) We finish this episode with tracks from touring bands that will be in our area this week.
